Flood Situation
The heavy floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caused loss of 1,100 lives, hundreds of injuries and incalculable damage to properties. According to the Provincial Government, the districts of Charsadda and Nowshera are widely believed to be the worst hit. The flood is the believed to be worst in recent history of
In addition to telecommunications, main roads have been rendered impassable by deep water cutting off most of the areas and preventing rescue and relief to reach the affected people.
UNHCR’s Immediate Response

Preliminary assessments indicate that an additional 10,000 families would require tents and non-food items. There is high expectation from UNHCR to continue providing emergency assistance to flood affected-population until the situation has been stabilized.
UNHCR is an active member of the Provincial Task Force headed by PDMA. The Task Force meets on a daily basis to review progress and discuss on plans.
Afghan Refugee Villages affected by flood
A rapid assessment was undertaken by UNHCR field staff to identify the immediate needs of Afghan refugee villages affected by the floods. Among main refugee villages impacted include Azakheil, Khurasan , Khazana, Hajizai and Kababian. Some Afghan 2000 families have been affected and, like their host community, they will also be assisted with UNHCR’s emergency response package.
UNHCR ware houses
UNHCR’s main warehouse’s wall in Azakheil, Nowshera District was washed away at two points ranging from 50 to 60 feet each. The assessment of the damaged items is now being carried out. The boundary wall of Azakheil II warehouse was completely demolished and the flood water spread the shelter material over the radius of 2 km which also resulted in blockage of Grand trunk Road between
World Food Programme reported of loss of 56 metric toms of food stored in Pabbi warehouse due to flood.
